Power firms were also ordered to implement a four to six-month staggered payment scheme for customers during the lockdown period.

Payments to start on June 15. Those consuming below 200 kilowatt hours a month can take the six-month option, while bigger consumers can pay in four months without penalties and other charges.

June bills must have a due date of July 1 the earliest to avoid another bill shock for customers.

The ERC directives came after it received complaints about Meralco‘s alleged high billings covering the past three months since the lockdown was enforced.

ERC said the universal charge, often collected from power users, also remains suspended indefinitely.
