Waves of profit! Lacson decries overpriced COVID testing equipment bought by government

Senator Ping Lacson expressed alarm over the Department of Health’s procurement of “grossly overpriced” health and medical supplies.

DOH had to pay more than double to get their hands on these equipment.

Lacson decried how much cheaper the group of Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion bought COVID-19 testing machines, swabbing equipment and protective gear.

Based on data from Concepcion’s Project ARK, which pooled rapid test kits and other medical equipment using private sector money, a personal protective equipment should only cost P1,079 per set, significantly lower than the P1,979/set acquired by the government.

The swab-taking packs cost $32 apiece but the private group only got theirs for only $12.

The PCR extraction machines were purchased at P4 million when they were only P1.75 million each unit.
