The supermarket sector is currently dominated by the Sy family, taipan Lucio Co and the Gokongwei group.
While construction of new grocery stores has been suspended due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the company expects its expansion to get back on track soon, MerryMart CFO Hannah Yulo-Luccini told ANC.
“We may have lost 2-3 months of expansion but we are confident we will be on track,” she said.
The company was aiming to open 12 stores by the end of the second quarter.
Ita goal is to open a total or 1,200 branches nationwide to reach its systemwide sales target of P120 billion.
Luccini said MerryMart would launch delivery services next month to prop up sales amid the tough times.
