Jobs market collapse! Unemployed Pinoys triple to all-time high 7.3M in locked down April

This is the worst unemployment record since January 2005 when the jobless rate surged to 11.5 percent.

Unemployment soared to a record 17.7 percent or 7.3 million Filipinos in April 2020, the first full month of the enhanced community quarantine, according to a report by the Philippine Statistics Authority.

This is more than triple the 5.3 percent or 2.4 million Filipinos in January 2020.

This is the worst unemployment record since January 2005 when the jobless rate surged to 11.5 percent.

The top five industries that suffered the most joblessness are:

1) Construction – 2.779 million

2) Hotel, tourism, restaurants and food service – 1.224 million

3) Media, information and communication – 267,000

4) Arts, entertainment and recreation – 200,000

4) Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – 61,000
