Meralco’s P47 online convenience fee is back

Customers who opt to settle their electricity bills through Manila Electric Co.’s app will again be charged a convenience fee of P47 for every transaction.

During a hearing at the House of Representatives, Meralco VP William Pamintuan said it would resume the collection of the P47 convenience fee for online bill payments as most payment centers have reopened following the easing of lockdown measures.

“Our consumers now have options in terms of how to pay their bills. And because of the opening of our business centers, the waiver will not be effective anymore,” he said.

Meralco waived the covenience fee charged by the payment gateway provider PayMaya as Meralco Business Offices and Bayad Center branches and partner outlets were closed during the quarantine.
