Balisacan says size, quality matter in drawing up economic stimulus plan

Philippine Competition Commission chairman Arsenio Balisacan weighed in on proposals for a much-needed economic stimulus package to help the country recover from the coronavirus crisis.

The big debate now is Quimbo’s P1.3-trillion proposal as against NEDA Sectetary Karl Chua’s P846 billion plan.

Quimbo maintained that injecting fresh capital into the economy was crucial for the Philippines to recover from the adverse impact of the pandemic.

Here’s what Balisacan has to say:

“Economic recovery measures peddled in corridors of power run to trillions of pesos. Given the crisis, the size of the stimulus program matters. But even more important is the quality of the program. A badly designed program wastes people’s money & opportunity for shared recovery.”
