Angry netizens blast Cynthia Villar for belittling healthcare workers, urge boycott of her family’s businesses

Senator Cynthia Villar is facing massive backlash on social media for brushing aside medical front liners’ plea for a two-week breathing space to recalibrate the government’s COVID-19 strategies.

Villar, who has been catching heat for remarks many consider callous and tasteless, said healthcare workers should learn to live with the coronavirus and should just do their jobs better.

“Hindi na siguro (babalik sa ECQ), pagbutihin nila trabaho nila. Hindi pwedeng isara ang ekonomiya kasi kung ‘di naman mamamatay sa COVID, mamamatay naman sa gutom ang tao,” said Villar.

The wife of the country’s richest man, Manny Villar has been hammered on Twitter and Facebook following insensitive comments she made.

Netizens are also backing an online call to boycott the businesses owned by her family — Coffee Project, AllDay Supermarket and convenience stores, Starmall, VistaLand, Vistamall and Camella Homes.
