Meralco to LGUs: Allow meter readings despite MECQ

Power utility giant Meralco learned its lesson the hard way after thousands of customers complained about excessively high during the hard lockdown in mid-March.

Meralco is appealing to local government units to allow meter readers to do their thing despite the return of stricter community quarantine measures in Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan.

“In line with this, Meralco appeals to local government units and barangay officials to recognize meter readers as among the essential workers granted permission to work amid MECQ, and allow them access to read meters of residences,” Meralco said in a statement.

“Rest assured this will be unobtrusive and the deployed meter readers will be in complete personal protective equipment, bearing in mind safety procedures. This will ensure that actual consumption for the month will be billed accordingly,” it added.
