Power utility giant Manila Electric Co. has extended the grace period for customers to settle their bills to give them more time to recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

During the hybrid hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability, Meralco president and CEO Ray Espinosa said the utility firm would not issue disconnection notices until October 31.

In the same hearing, Espinosa disclosed that Meralco would give a distribution charge discount of P101 million, covering 2.77 million customers who consume 100 kilowatts per hour and below.

Current bills can be paid in installments for four or six months at zero interest.
