Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the world famous Boracay Island was reopening its borders to tourists nationwide beginning October 1, providing much-needed income for tourism workers, many of whom have not earned anything since the middle of March.

“The reopening of Boracay to new market sources signals a gathering momentum for domestic tourism all over the country,” she said.

Puyat said visitors would be required to present a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) result 48 to 72 hours prior to traveling to Boracay.

Airlines were also advised to use the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan as the only airport of entry in transporting tourists to the island.
