Netizens were quick to weigh in on the decision of ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez to resign from the embattled media company as well as from several other family-owned businesses.
The 68-year-old bilyonaryo also gave up his seat on the boards of ABS-CBN Holdings Corp., Sky Vision, Sky Cable, First Philippine Holdings Corp., First Gen Corp. and Rockwell Land.
His decision to leave his positions effective immediately was due to “personal reasons”.
Some people viewed this as a sign of surrender.
” I wonder what personal reasons he has. Maybe he gave up or didn’t want to get involved anymore, like abandoning the ship,” said @spyderko.
UPDATE: Official statement from A/BS/CBN CEO Gabby 'Lopez'.
Really funny, this is how he OFFICIALLY throw his ppl under the bus by making an alibi "personal reasons" for his resignation. So, he'd rather ESCAPE than addressing his management violations. #Oligarch #Oligarchy pic.twitter.com/cO6txF2BHx

Akala ko ba forever kapamilya? Si Gabby Lopez na head pa pala isa sa unang bibitaw. https://t.co/2wXY2Nbnhv

Others, however, asked critics yo just accept Lopez’s resignation.
Thank you Sir Gabby Lopez for the leadership, and all the sacrifices for the company. Don't worry everything will rise up again. https://t.co/6DMimZDUvN

How sad. If the congressmen voted YES for the renewal, it would've never happened. Heck, the 70 put selfishness first over the will of their constituents and the Filipino people. Seeing Gabby Lopez resign makes me very angry to this shambolic government! #IbalikAngABSCBN
