Aboitizes tap bitcoin expert Ron Hose as Union Bank director

The Aboitiz-led Union Bank of the Philippines has picked a leading techpreneur to fill up its vacant board seat.

In its board meeting on 25 September 2020, the directors elected Ron Hose as independent director to serve the remaining term of office of the late Erwin M. Elechicon.

The 41-year American graduated from Cornell University in 2005 with a Masters of Engineering Degree in Computer Science. His career spans from being a founder of various technology companies in the United States of America to setting up Coins.Ph in 2013, one of the first cryptocurrency platforms established in the country and has since grown as a mobile payment solution for remittances, load, bill payments, and online shopping.

Hose has been assigned to chair Union Bank’s market risk committee. He was also named as a member of the committees on operations risk management, corporate governance and technology.

Hose’s appointment is in line with Union Bank’s expansion into financial technology to expand its operations.
