From banking to mining in 4 decades: Butch Alcantara retires as Marcventures president

Isidro “Butch” Alcantara Jr. is retiring as president of Marcventures Holdings Inc. (MHI).

Marcventures announced that Alcantara will step down on October 31, 2020 after seven years as president of the nickel and bauxite (material for aluminum) mining firm.

Marcventures has four mining concerns are: Alumina Mining Philippines (San Jose de Buan and Paranas in Samar); Bauxite Resources (Gandara, San Jose de Buan, Matuguinao, and San Jorge in Samar); BrightGreen Resources Corporation (Carrascal and Cantilan in Surigao del Sur); and Marcventures Mining and Development (Carrascal, Cantilan and Madrid, in Surigao Del Sur. and within the Diwata Mountain Range).

Alcantara also retired as chair of the Philippine Nickel Industry Association which has emerged as a major mining organization in the two years under his watch.

Before jumping into mining, Alcantara had a successful banking career for 35 years highlighted by his four-year term as president of Philippine Bank of Communications which steered into rehabilitation.

A Certified Public Accountant, Alcantara occupied high-level posts in Bancom Finance Corporation, PCI Bank, and Insular Bank of Asia and America (a Bank of America affiliate), and Equitable PCI.

He was a former director of the Bankers Association of the Philippines.
