Meralco rates slightly up in October

Electricity rates will go up this month by P0.1212 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) due to higher generation charges, power utility giant Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said.

Residential customers of Meralco that consume 200 kWH will see their billing increase to P8.55/kWh from P8.4288/kWh in September.

Meralco said this is equivalent to an increase of P24 in the total bill of residential customers consuming 200 kWh.

The increase in the overall rate, which is still lower than the P9.0862/kWh in October last year, was mainly due to higher prices at the Wholesale Electricity Sport Market owing to tight supply conditions and higher demand.

“After being placed under MECQ in August, a rise in the Luzon demand was observed in September with the return to GCQ in Metro Manila and adjacent areas,” Meralco said.
