The Management Association of the Philippines has named the newly-minted boss of Lopez Group, Federico “Piki” Lopez, as its recipient for the “Management Man of the Year” for 2020.
The 57-year old was chosen for his passion in pushing for the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy; pushing for the power industry’s deregulation; steering the Lopez Group in clean technologies for renewable energy and natural gas; and developing a deep bench of globally-competitive Filipino technical and managerial talent.
MAP also cited Lopez’s undertakings in technical-vocational education, youth development, community-based livelihood programs, scholarship opportunities for musicians, and research projects on environmental protection; and being a role model for Filipino managers through a track record of integrity, entrepreneurial excellence, professional competence and great leadership in his management career.
Lopez took over chairman of First Philippine Holdings Corp. in 2010 and was recently named chairman of Lopez Inc. two weeks ago.
Only 44 individuals have been named as “Management Man of the Year” by MAP in 50 years.
Lopez’s father, Oscar M. Lopez, won the award in 2000.
