The P15-billion terminal has been completed ahead of schedule despite disruptions caused by Covid-19.
According to the Department of Transportation, workers are now installing interior fittings to make way for the new terminal’s opening in January 2021.
The construction component of the project was bagged by Megawide Corp. and India’s GMR Infrastructure. The group is also behind the upgrade and operations of the world-class Mactan Cdebu International Airport.
A priority project under the Duterte government’s Build Build Build program, the new terminal will triple Clark airport’s capacity to 12.2 million passengers per year.
“Despite the current challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DOTr, Bases Conversion and Development Authority and GMR Megawide, ensured the accelerated construction works at Clark airport, and thus made a huge headway, while still observing strict health and safety protocols to protect workers and other project stakeholders,” the DOTr said.
