Scuba diving now allowed in Batangas after 7-month pause

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has approved the return of recreational diving in resorts in Batangas seven months after they were ordered to close as part of measures to stop the spread of Covid 19 in the country.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said scuba diving is now allowed even in areas under general and modified general community quarantine as she noted the “general preparedness” of dive establishments and the potential in reviving tourism jobs.

Approved dive areas by the Inter-Agency Task Force are authorized to accept diving patrons if they come from either GCQ or MGCQ areas.

“We express our support to the diving community in Batangas, one of the premier diving destinations in the country. We remain optimistic yet cautious of its reopening to recreational diving,” Romulo-Puyat said.
