Skyway Extension completion date moved to next year

The target completion date for the Skyway Extension project has been moved to February 2021 instead of end this year.

The announcement came after the a steel bar from the ongoing Skyway project in Cupang, Muntinlupa fell on six vehicles Saturday morning.

“After initial assessment, this unfortunate incident sets back the completion of the Skyway Extension Project. From the December 2020 deadline, target completion is now February 2021.” San Miguel said in a statement.

SMC said the project contractor, EEI Corp. gave the assurance it would attend to, and take care of all the needs of those who were affected by the accident.

One person died and at least four were injured and rushed to the hospital.

SMC, for his part, said it would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and promised to make sure that the victims would get all the help they need.

“We deeply regret this unfortunate accident and assure a full and thorough investigation. Our thoughts and concern are with the victims and we will make sure they will get all the help they need. Their welfare is our priority.” SMC said.

In a separate statement, EEI said they are monitoring progress of the victims and are trying to get in touch with their families to extend any assistance they may need.

Apart from this, EEI said it would immediately review its safety and operating protocols to prevent this from happening again.
