Travel to return to normal by 2022 – AirAsia

Demand for air travel will not return until 2022, according to AirAsia Group Berhad.

“I believe 2021 will be a much, much better year than 2020. I’m anticipating that by June, things will begin to normalize. By 2022, we’ll start to see normal behavior coming out,” Tony Fernandes said during Go Negosyo’s online briefing.

Fernandes said they are currently focusing on “survival” and “being positive” amid the ongoing global health crisis.

AirAsia also announced that its logistics venture, Teleport, has completed the rollout of its delivery services in 70 cities in Southeast Asia, including Manila, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Kalibo, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, Clark, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga.

Teleport can deliver almost anything, from food, groceries, documents, flowers and even laundry!

“Our mission is to make delivery simple, fast and affordable for everyone. With a one hour delivery promise, we hope that all local merchants and businesses will benefit. Soon, businesses can experience 24 hour express deliveries between cities as well as cross-border delivered to you by Teleport,” said Pete Chareonwongsak, CEO of Teleport.

AirAsia is banking on its digital business to help its airline operations recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
