Govt knows what private sector wants: Tessie Sy-Coson appeals for lifting of commuter curbs

Bilyonaryo Tessie Sy-Coson is reiterating her appeal for the government to relax its restrictions on public transportation to spur economic activity.

“We look up to Ricky (Razon of ICTSI and Bloomberry-Solaire) to tell the government what our sentiments are. He knows what we need, and I just hope the government understands the things that we are hoping for in the private sector,” said the vice-chair of SM Investments in a Go Negosyo forum.

“We are all doing what we can in our ecosystems. But we also need the government to help,” she added.

Sy-Coson said the government should open more logistics and transport hubs for “freer flow of people…open commuting from one area to another.”

Public transportation has reopened since the shift to general community quarantine in June but on a limited basis.

Sy-Coson said shopping malls, the center of consumer activity in the country, have already done their part in observing health and social distancing protocols and were confident of taking in more shoppers.

“There should be a lot of working together between the public and private sector,” said Sy-Coson who was among the loudest voices in urging the government to allow business to operate at 50 percent capacity during the lockdown in the second quarter.
