With its aggressive expansion, PLDT’s fiber network reached more than 429,000 kilometers as of December 20, the largest and most extensive in the country.
PLDT said this fiber infrastructure supports Smart’s mobile networks, which now cover 96 percent of the population.
Smart increased the number of its base stations to over 59,000 at the end of 2020. It rolled out additional 5G sites as it accelerated its 5G commercial services across the country.
“Our journey continues further by capitalizing on the various improvements we made in 2020, when we pivoted toward market leadership. This year, we will accelerate our capabilities and achieve more milestones,” said Al Panlilio, Smart president and PLDT chief revenue officer.
To elevate its services to world-class standards, PLDT has earmarked up to P92 billion this year for its expansion program.
