The BSP announced that 72-year old Diokno has taken medical leave “after undergoing a successful procedure to address a blood clot caused by a minor head accident.”
Deputy Governor Francisco Dakila will be in charge while Diokno is recuperating in the hospital.
According to the central bank, the surgery was a success and that the prognosis for his complete recovery was “very good.”
“The procedure went well and I’m now on my way to recovery,” Diokno said in a message to the Monetary Board and the BSP staff.
Diokno will serve the remaining term of his predecessor Nestor Espenilla until July 2023.
