Diokno takes medical leave after head injury

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno is temporarily stepping away from his duties to focus on his health.

The BSP announced that 72-year old Diokno has taken medical leave “after undergoing a successful procedure to address a blood clot caused by a minor head accident.”

Deputy Governor Francisco Dakila will be in charge while Diokno is recuperating in the hospital.

According to the central bank, the surgery was a success and that the prognosis for his complete recovery was “very good.”

“The procedure went well and I’m now on my way to recovery,” Diokno said in a message to the Monetary Board and the BSP staff.

Diokno will serve the remaining term of his predecessor Nestor Espenilla until July 2023.
