NGCP tower in Lanao del Norte toppled

National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said one of its towers in Lanao del Norte was toppled due to the intentional pilferage of transmission line parts, causing a power interruption this morning.

NGCP is a Filipino-led, privately owned company in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid.

The toppled tower resulted to manual load droppings affecting customers of Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative (ZAMSURECO I and II), Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative (ZANECO), Misamis Occidental II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MOELCI I and II) and Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative (LANECO) in parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental, and parts of Lanao del Norte starting at 10:17AM Monday.

“NGCP is working with authorities to secure the area and to identify the perpetrators of the sabotage. Restoration of tower 60 will commence as soon as the area is secured,” the company said.

It has appealed to the public, local and national government, and local community leaders to help identify the perpetrators of sabotage and prevent power interruptions.
