‘Personal reasons’: 3 directors quit Mel Velarde’s Now Corp. after 4 years

One independent and two regular directors have left the 11-member board of Now Corp. chaired by Mel Velarde.

In a disclosure, Marlou B. Ubano (independent), Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon, and Winnita V. Ysog cited “personal reasons” for their resignation which took effect on 10 February 2021.

Ubano and Tuazon joined Now’s board on June 2016. Ubano is a lawyer who used to be an assistant secretary for Legal Affairs of the Department of Transportation and Communications from 2011 to 2013.

Tuazon is currently the president of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication, Inc. Since 2007, Tuazon has been the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education Technical Committee for Communication (TCC) and member of the CHED Technical Panel for Social Sciences and Communication.

Ysog was elected director on September 2016. She was the former managing director of Velarde’s Altimax Broadcasting and vice-chairman of Next Mobile.

Ubano was replaced by William Torres while Francis Xavier L. Manglapus took over Ysog’s seat. Now has yet to name Tuazon’s replacement.
