Telco magnate Manny V. Pangilinan expects TV5 Network Inc. to finally break even in three years and be cash flow-positive going forward, banking on its new shows and cost-cutting measures.
“I think maybe four or five years away we are looking at profit situation and maybe three years for our breakeven that’s our best forecast,” said Pangilinan, chairman of TV5.
Pangilinan earlier projected TV5 would break in 2019 even after a series of manpower reduction in 2015 and the cancellation of entertainment shows in 2016.
“We see some traction with respect to their (TV5) own entertainment content , still low in terms of ratings, probably one tenth or one eight of the size of GMA7, but moving upward gradually,” he said.
“The content of ABS-CBN that’s so far been shown on TV5 has helped a bit and we’re talking to them about showing more content on TV5,” Pangilinan added.
Four ABS-CBN shows will banner TV5’s primetime block starting Monday. These are FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Ang Sa Iyo ay Akin, Walang Hanggang Paalam and Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Connect.
Through this arrangement with Cignal and TV5, ABS-CBN Entertainment will be able to bring its programs through TV5’s nationwide reach.
