Bilyonaryos suffer miserable March as Injap Sia falls out of list

Bilyonaryos suffered a setback in March for the second straight year as surging COVID cases and vaccines delays drag investor sentiment.

Only 14 Filipinos made the cut of individuals with at least $1 billion in net worth last month as Injap Sia got bumped off.

The uber rich Pinoys had a total fortune of $39.9 billion as of end March, down by $2.6 billion or five percent the previous month.

The biggest decliners were San Miguel Corp.’s Ramon S. Ang and Jollibee’s Tony Tan Caktiong.

Ang saw his assets shrink by nine percent to $2 billion while Tan Caktiong’s riches dropped by 8,5 percent to $2.2 billion.

Only Century Foods’ Ricardo Po showed resilience during the month with a robust nine percent gain to $1.2 billion.

After just four months on the list, Sia is again out of the elite circle.

Sia’s joint venture with Tan Caktiong, Double Dragon, plunged 13 percent to P13.20 in March from P15.22 the previous month. His grocery stock, Merry Mart, cratered 19 percent to P5.44 from P6.69. Sia’s latest initial public offering, DDMP Reit, closed the month at P2.15 or four percent below its offer price of P2.25.

7) Henry Sy Jr. – $2.5 billion down 7%

8) Harley Sy – $2.5 billion down 7%

9) Tessie Sy-Coson – $2.5 billion down 4%

10) Tony Tan Caktiong – $2.2 billion down 8.5%

11) Elizabeth Sy – $2.2 billion down 4%

12) Ramon S. Ang – $2 billion down 9%

13) Roberto V. Ongpin – $1.2 billion unchanged

14) Ricardo Po Sr. – $ 1.2 billion up 9% (unchanged)
