ABS-CBN sues 40 US pirate sites for $40M

Lopez-led media and entertainment firm ABS-CBN lodged a $40 million complaint against 40 private domains for copyright and trademark infringement.

The US District Court for the Southern District of Florida recently issued a preliminary injunction against these 40 pirate sites to take down the domains.

The filing of the lawsuit follows reports that piracy is making a comeback.

According to a report by, lockdowns had resulted into more breaches of streaming security as a result of higher demand.

Criminals were isolating at home and likely had more time to engage in illegal activities.

“Beware of pirate domains, especially clicking on them. They usually contain malware which can substantially infect your computer,” said Elisha Lawrence, AVP and head of Global Anti-Piracy.

“Watch our content on safe legitimate services such as ABS-CBN’s OTT platform iWantTFC and the TFC channel on all major cable and satellite providers,” she said.
