Tiu family upbeat on tourism, inks new resort deals in Davao, Bacolod; pursues Benguet, Siargao, Palawan projects despite COVID

The Tiu family is going against the tide amid the lingering coronavirus pandemic as its continues to expand its Discovery World brand and develop its P7 billion landbank.

A Babbler revealed the Tiu family has entered into two new agreements to build Discovery World resort hotels on Samal Island in Davao and Sipalay, Bacolod.

Aside from these two new projects, Discovery World is also pushing through with the expansion of its resort in Siargao, Surigao del Sur.

Discovery World, through Sonoran Corp., is currently in the design stage of its 145-key luxury hotel, Discovery Benguet, which will anchor the leisure tourism estate to be developed on its 5.8-hectare property in La Trinidad, the strawberry capital of the Philippines.

Discovery World also owns Lucky Cloud 9 Resort which is in pre-development stage for a 34-room hotel and 48-bed hostel (under the Kip & Kin brand) on a 2.6-hectare property right smack in the middle of the world-famous “Cloud 9” surfing spot.

Its 3.9-hectare property in San Vicente, Palawan – which boasts of the longest white beach in the country (14 kilometers) – is likewise in the pre-development stage. The Tiu family plans to build a 42-room hotel and 136-hostel bed hybrid resort geared for both luxury and youthful travelers.

The Babbler said these projects should have been off the drawing board as early as 202o if not for the global pandemic which plunged the entire tourism industry into a tailspin.
