Based on its annual report, GMA lorded over the Nielsen Television Audience Measurement tally board in 2020 with nearly one in two TV viewers locked into the Kapuso channel.
GMA’s national audience share rocketed to 46.7 percent in 2020 from 31.9 percent in 2019.
ABS-CBN, which had its free TV channel yanked off air on May 6 and its franchise application rejected by a Congress committee on July 10, saw its national audience share drop to 30.4 percent in 2019 from an industry-leading 35 percent in 2019.
ABS-CBN Sports Action channel had zero share in 2020 from 1.8 percent in 2019.
Even GMA’s news only channel nearly doubled its national audience share to four percent in 2020 from 2.1 percent in 2019.
GMA said it “pulled much away further from competition and the rest of TV channels in 2020.”
The country’s No. 3 TV station, TV 5 of bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan, benefited from ABS-CBN’s downfall with its national audience share rising 5.2 percent from 2.8 in 2020 percent in 2019.
This is how the other TV networks fared in the ratings game in 2020:
* state-owned PTV 4 with a .4 percent national audience share (up from .3 percent in 2019),
* ETC channel with .2 percent share (from .1 percent in 2019);
* CNN Philippines with .1 percent share (unchanged from 2019); and
* 2nd Avenue (RJTV) with .1 percent (from zero in 2020).
